I've been following the Destiny's Child group almost from its inception and let me tell you, I

never could tell who Beyonce was. I thought Kelly Rowlands was Beyonce! And God, do I miss the 2 original group members, especially that pretty little thing with name that begins with an "L". I forget.

My point here is that, I NEVER KNEW BEYONCE. She's so plain & unattractive that I guess I just passed her over. Granted, she sings rather ok and she's the leader of the group (this I believe has gotta do with the fact that her parents ARE the group's PR) but the bottom line is too much praise has been underservedly gone to her. Don't get me wrong. She's OK but others are much, much better. Ashanti (perhaps badly PR-ed by MURDER INC) for instance is, not to mention Aaliyah, Whitney, Desree, Blu, Brandy, etc. I won't dicuss J-LO!! Hell, no!

I also believe Kelly Rowlands is a better singer, looker & performer (Michelle has a better voice-looks better than Beyonce 100x) and should be given leadership status of the group and not be sidelined.

I'm reading this and I am appalled at all the HATERS in this room. First of all, Beyonce in undeniably GORGEOUS and she has a beautiful body and she's not afraid to show her thick thighs, juicy booty, and luscious hips. And whether you like it or not, she IS holding her own against Whitney and Maraih, and if she don't fall off into crack or get shot up wIth Botox and boobies and prove how horrible she can be by doing a "Glitter", she may very well top them. I think that as Black women, we should be proud of her as a talented performer instead of hating on her. And for those thinking that she don't deserve Jay-Z- who he suppossed to date, someone how is broke and busted and has nothing to do but but hate all day like some of the washed up chickenheads on this site? And like it or lump it, but Beyonce is just as beautiful as Aaliyah, and although I love her, GOd rest her soul, she performs just as well, too. I bet you've seen it before. Although there are stars who are just as beautiful like Tamia and Halle, Beyonce surpasses them with her magnetic enery, style, and star qualities, which make people respect her as more than a pretty face, which is why she's EVERYWHERE you look and they are not. And if you think that Kelly and Michelle are better looking or have better voices than Be, you are in denial and you KNOW it. Them whisps of nothingness have nothing on her, they are literally just shadows compared to her. ALL of them have done independant projects and NONE of them had the global success that Beyonce's did, so the proof is there. And from personal experiece, I have heard all of them sing- individually- at the rodeo and Michelle almost got booed off the stage. The girl was so shrill and off-key that she shattered her stage lights. And lastly- the originial members of DC- who are they? Where are they? Kelly may live in Beyonce's shadow, but she still PAID and at least she ain't waiting tables at Denny's wishing she hadn't had a hissy fit and left a group that went MULTIPLATINUM after they left it.

I'm not looking to the past and that is NOT my basis for comparison between Beyonce and Aaliyah. If Aaliyah were still around, I'm pretty sure that she would not have garnered as much adverse reaction from the public as Beyonce does. The same goes for many of Beyonce's living contemporaries. No one has mentioned Alicia Keys, who is not only beautiful and stylish, but she also writes amazing songs and plays instruments, all the while keeping her clothes on and her class intact. She is an awesome talent, and no one resents her. This is because she doesn't suffer from OVEREXPOSURE, which is something many people don't understand because they simply follow what the media crams down their throats as the flavor of the month or "the best", "the most beautiful", "the most talented", etc. People who see through this fog are instantly slapped with the "hater" label by all the followers. As for the person who made the comparison with Willie Nelson. . .I understand your point. I am not a fan of Willie's either. But at the same time, I am not assaulted by his image or songs everytime I turn around, so there is no basis for any annoyance. I like Beyonce very much. I have bought every Destiny's Child cd there is. I've also bought "Dangerously In Love" by Beyonce. I really do think she is doing great things. However, I do think that most of the spotlight's been on her, and not Kelly or Michelle. I would love to hear Kelly sing one whole song by herself on the next Destiny's Child album. I wish Beyonce so much happiness and success, but I really do want to see a lot more of Kelly.
